Macadamia Nut Farm w/ the Family (video)

5/15/07

Today I took the family and Colleen to one of my favorite places on Oahu...the Macadamia Nut farm. It is a tucked away treasure that may not sound fun and exciting, but should be on the list of top 10 things to do on Oahu (in my opinion). In fact, I have taken so many people there since I first discovered the place (thanks to Josh's Dad who heard about it from a guy in a bar!!!) that I have developed a friendship with Chief Sielu Avea!

However, I think more and more people are hearing of the place and of the Chief! He recently starred in a movie, has his own website and President Obama paid him a visit!!!

Anyway, the tour started per usual with a ride in the green bus...notice that the key is a stick?!?

We then learned a bit about plants the South Pacific islanders use(d) for cooking, clothing, etc. and headed to the village.

From there we load the boats and head out into the fist pond for a unique perspective of the island and its mountain range.

During the boat tour the Chief explains how the fish pond works and what parts of these lands were used to film famous

movies and TV shows such as 50First Dates and King Kong and Gilligan's Island and Lost - to name a few.

Once we are back on dry land it is time for story telling and fire-dancing.

The Chief's men make headdresses for each of us...
left - married/stuck
right - single/available/free
middle - don't know if you are coming or going

Colleen and I - BOTH SINGLE!!! (which later proved to attract some attention from the Chief's village boys!) :)
