Circle Island BIKE Tour of Oahu

5/9/07

My Mom has always loved cycling and had never been to Hawaii, so I decided, what better way to see the island than by bike! We rented her a road bike for the 2 days it would take us and I trudged along on my mountain bike - tires whirrrrrring the whole way...

We started from Waikiki and headed south towards Hawaii Kai where my Mom took these pics of some outriggers we passed.

The past Sandy's, Waimanalo (my FAVE beach!), Kailua, Kaneohe

We road up the Kam Hwy past the Maca-Nut farm (another fave place of mine!), where we saw a picture of a guy that looks JUST like my Uncle Archie - weird!!!

Then, on through Laei and finally, after promising my Mom for miles that we were almost there, we stopped for Kahuku shrimp!

We then road past the 7-mile miracle of Sunset, Pipe, etc. and into Haleiwa town for Aoki's Shave Ice and then to my friend Tim's house to crash for the night! (THANKS TIM!)

The next morning we got up early and made the 45-minute climb out of Haleiwa town to the Dole Plantation - where we aptly treated ourselves to a HUGE Pineapple Split!

And, not so eager to get back on our bikes too quickly we went through the World's Largest Human Maze!

On our bikes again we stopped for a minute at Aloha Stadium...notice the backpack...yeah, we were supposed to give everything to Tim the night before at my birthday celebration, but the morning we started to ride there were suddenly all of these things my Mom "needed." I told her she was going to wear the pack, but after 10 miles, guess who put it on...and rode with it for the next 120 miles?!? My Mom says it was to slow me down so she could keep up - had to put me on a mountain bike and put 40lbs on my back! HA!
