Milford Sound, New Zealand

1/20/07

We left Wanaka at about 11am and rushed to get to Milford Sound for our overnight Tall Ship trip!

The drive again was unbelievably beautiful, but we were in such a rush and the roads were so windy and wet we really didn't get to enjoy it too much.

Once on the boat we settled into our private little cabin with a cute porthole and bunks.

They served pumpkin soup and tea as we cruised through the foggy and enchanting landscape. It was amazing how steep the cliffs surrounding us were and how they plummeted deep into the ocean below. There were waterfalls cascading down the faces of the cliffs and at one point the boat drove straight into purposely drenching everyone on the deck! (we saw the writing on the wall and took cover inside!)

After a nature tour on some small motorboats, where we got up close with the seals and learned about the landscape, we had hot showers and a delicious dinner.

After dinner we met an amazingly fun couple (Phil & Shaun) and played card games and a game called "In the Manner of the Adverb" Basically the premise of the game is that one person is sent away and the rest of the group comes up with an adverb like lovingly or even something silly like smilingly. Then the person is told to come back and is allowed to ask questions to everyone and the person who is asked a question has to answer it in the manner of the adverb (lovingly, smilingly, etc). The person is allowed to ask questions to anyone in the group until he/she can guess the adverb being acted out! It was belly hurting hilarious...I literally thought I was going to pee my pants on more than one occasion cause I was laughing so hard!

The next morning I awoke to the sound of splashing and it turned out to be dolphins jumping right outside our porthole window!!!
