Joe in Hawaii 08

While I was working at this year's Vans Triple Crown of Surfing as the Assistant Media Director, Joe and 2 couples (Casey & Lena and Shaun & Jenny) came to visit me in Hawaii and take in the sites and warm weather.

Joe was excited to show them some of the fun things we did the last time he visited me in Hawaii like Mariner's Ridge

















and the waves at Waimea Bay









But I also took them to do other things like the Fia Fia Luau with Cheif Sielu...


Casey and Lena got into the fun right away...maybe it was the 2 free MaiTai's

















Even I have to admit that they sneak up on you!







We all headed down to the beach before the food was served to check out one of the most amazing sunsets over the private beach...



















While we were waiting for the show to start, Joe surprised me with one of the handcrafted bowls that Pule (one of the Samoan dancers) makes...they are amazingly hand crafted out of the wood of the Monkey Paw tree. The detailing is incredible and there is no varnish used at all...it is all oils and natural colors rubbed over and over into the wood to give it its natural shine!







During the luau, Shaun was chosen as one of the official Chiefs of the luau (I wish I could remember what name he was given...) and drank from Chief Sielu's Cup.







Then it was time for the fellas to get up on stage and shake their booties with the Tahitian dancers. Joe and Casey got up there and Joe shook his round Polish booty so much that the Chief even commented to the crowd "Is that thing real?" and tucked Joe's shirt into his pants for everyone to see the badunkadunk!





Joe ended up staying a couple of days longer than Casey, Lena, Jenny and Shaun so we took the time to relax and enjoy the North Shore together (check out the reflection in Joe's shades!!!)
